So, a few weeks ago our Pastor was talking about taking risks (yes, it was actually bible-related). His comment was basically that when you take a risk, one of three things happens: 1) You Succeed, 2) You Fail, 3) You Grow.
Interesting, but I do not agree. And no, I did not raise my hand to debate him during his message. I did actually think about chatting with him post-service, but figured maybe another time – or not. 🙂
Anyway, I would have said it this way: When you take a risk, three things happen: 1) You Succeed, 2) You Fail, and 3) You Grow.
My point is this: ALL THREE things happen when you take a risk – not just one. They just happen in varying degrees.
Think of it like this – the work you put into whatever risk you take results in something. That “something” is like pouring out water which ends up in varying amount in the three buckets of success, failure, and growth. The hope, of course, is that more of it ends up in the success bucket than the failure bucket, but I can promise you that regardless of which of those two buckets wins, you will always end up with plenty in the growth bucket.
I have yet to see someone take a risk and not grow in some way, shape or form.
So Pastor who will remain nameless, maybe you can rethink that position a bit. Or maybe let me up there for a few minutes and give it a crack.
Oh wait – that would be a horrible idea. If I am lucky, he’ll never read this. 🙂
