No, this is a not going to be a “What Am I Thankful For” post – I think we’ve all seen enough of that already, and as I write this Thanksgiving is only about halfway over. My only comment will be that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year – Food, Football, and Family – all without any of the #($*&@# present crap.
That said, I wanted to write about the fact that I think (not 100% sure) that this year is the first time EVER that we are going out for Thanksgiving dinner. In recent years, we’ve started going out for Christmas Eve dinner, but for whatever reason, we decided to go out for Thanksgiving. And I’m pretty darn excited about it.
We aren’t feeding a house full of people this year – no overnight or weekend guests – just the four of us and my Dad (aka – “Grandpys” – pronounced Grandpees). It’s been a “jammies day” at the Siok household – lots of lounging around, late showers, reading, etc. Trisha baked cookies for my Mom and a small pumpkin cake/loaf for the neighbors (she’s nice that way). Basically just a chill day all around.
And that is pretty much the forecast for the rest of the weekend. We have a couple of “errands” on Saturday (one of them involves wine tasting so not sure I’d call that an errand) and brunch with some friends on Sunday. Otherwise a big, fat NOTHING for the weekend. That is pretty freakin’ awesome in my opinion.
I get to get caught up on some reading I’ve been wanting to do, maybe even hit the treadmill (God forbid), and just hang out for the weekend. I know it’s going to be rough go for the remainder of the year (work-wise) so it’s extra satisfying that I’ll get a chance to recharge the batteries before the final year-end push.
So at this very moment – I’m thankful for doing nothing for four days. I just hope my boss doesn’t scold me for sending work-related emails tomorrow. I’d much rather be working than any Black Friday crap anyway. Speaking of, there were a few folks camped out in front of Best Buy this morning. I just don’t get that.
Anyway … Happy Thanksgiving!
PS – I’ll have a full report on the “going out for Thanksgiving” project in a future post. So far, so good. 🙂
